Benefits
Growing trial delivered in most challenging environmental conditions.
Commercial experience and realities embedded in project business cases.
Successfully led Work Package in a Horizon 2020 Project.
Eleven partners from six European countries collaborated in the consortium between October 2012 and September 2016. It was funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union, Horizon 2020.
MultiBioPro focused on the non-food crops of poplar (Populus spp.) and tree tobacco (Nicotiana glauca) as both require little resource input, grow well on marginal soils and do not disrupt food production.
Neutral Supply Chain (NSC), working closely with Royal Holloway University of London, played a key role in leading the Work Package for growing trials of the two tree types. This included successfully manag-ing and running a two year trial in the near desert conditions of the UAE.
In addition NSC developed outline business cases for potential bio-products, including market testing and key elements of life-cycle analysis. These are all key skills to be taken forward to new Horizon 2020 projects in 2017, once again in close collaboration with Royal Holloway University of London.
